Architect Veikko Voutilainen (1934-2008).
Voutilainen spent his early childhood in Vyborg, from where the family was evacuated in 1939 and the family settled in Uttis. Voutilainen graduated from Kouvola Lyceum in 1952 and obtained a degree in architecture from Tampere Technical Institute in 1960.
Winning the architectural competition for the Elimäki City Council office building in 1965 gave him the impulse to start an architectural office. Voutilainen and his brother ran the office for 30 years. At its peak, more than twenty people worked in the office and designed a couple of hundred public buildings.
The office designed libraries, municipal office buildings, health centers, retirement homes, and industrial buildings.
Veikko Voutilainen also served as chairman of the City of Vantaa's façade committee. Thinking about social issues and developing solutions were important to him.
