Sara Cwynar föddes i Vancouver, Kanada 1985 och bor och arbetar för närvarande i Brooklyn, New York. Cwynar arbetar främst med fotografi och collage där hennes fotografier involverar ständig arkivering och återpresentation av insamlat visuellt material av olika bildspråk med referenser till konstteori. Cwynar var en av mottagarna av 2020 Sobey Art Award, 2020 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award och 2021 Shpilman Photography Prize. Hon tog sin Bachelor of Design från York University 2010 och sin MFA från Yale University 2016.
