Gudmar Olovsons reputation as a sculptor of busts has led him to being approached by a wide variety of personalities from the world of literature, industry, film, and politics. He has modelled more than 75 busts, among friends and family are also the more well-known like the portrait of General de Gaulle, President Georges Pomidou, the accress Ingrid Bergman and the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.
In February 2005, the Swedish Scout and Guide Association held its annual meeting, coinciding with King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 50th anniversary as a scout. To celebrate this occasion the Swedish Scout Association presented the king with a bronze bust of himself, created by Gudmar Olovson. The idea for commissioning the sculpture came from Peder Wallenberg, himself a scout since his early youth. The King posed for him in eight sittings during the summer of 2002 at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
The portrait was cast in a bronze alloy with a light, almost golden tone and the casting was made by the prestigious firm of Godard in Paris.
