FOLKFORM, a carpet, "Blue Tapestry in jute and wool", ed. 1/3, 2022.
Jute and wool, ca 250 x 300 cm.
"The Folkform new woven blue wool carpets are developed in collaboration
with Louis De Poortere, a carpet manufacturer based in Belgium and
established in 1929.
In the new carpet Folkform aimed at experimenting with traditional ways
of weaving and finishing a ”Wilton carpet”. These types of carpet date
back to the town of Wilton in England, where authentic woven Wilton
carpets were first produced hundreds of years ago.
Folkform's objective was to bring the traditional jute thread,
normally woven into the backing of the carpet, to the front, thus
creating striped patterns and textures from this natural jute.
By combining the jute thread with a blue wool yarn and using different
finishing techniques, the collaboration has resulted in three unique
carpets created from a patchwork of blue woven Wilton textures."
Folkform is a collaboration between designers Anna Holmquist and Chandra Ahlsell. Founded in 2005, the studio has become known for its conceptual furniture and product design.
