The necklace is a part of the Space silver collection created in the late 1960s by Björn Weckström. The inspiration for the collection was the moon landing in 1969, the universe and sci-fi. To the universe Weckström does not only mean space but also the universe and landscapes on Earth, the barren Tundra and the vast snow covered expances in Lappland formed by the cod and the winds. The Planetoid valleys necklace was designed in 1969 and became available in stores for sale the same year.

The Planetoid valleys neckalce is the most known piece of jewellery of the collection. It was seen in 1977 in the first Star Wars movie worn by Princess Leia and became over night a iconic piece of jewellery all over the world.
