Matti Martikka from South Karelia was a locally known carpenter. His carpentry hobby began with small everyday objects made for home use, but eventually the interior design of the home was dominated by ever larger wooden objects. Martikka carved chairs from tree trunks and made large log tables. He never sold his furniture, but saved it for his home museum in Joutseno. The Martikka furniture that is now for sale comes from the collections at the recently closed Martikka Museum.
