The flagon was given to Rolf Witting as a 50-year birthday present by the Publisher and Printing House of Hufvudstadsbladet, where he was a member of the board. Professor Witting, scientist and politician, was also director-general of the Finnish Institute of Marine Research and minister of the Finnish government.
