Addition to the Imperial (Ropsha) Service.
Prince Pyotr Mikhailovich Volkonsky (1776-1852), the Minister of Imperial Court and Properties, commissioned in 1823 a luxurious dinner service for the Winter Palace to be used at the grandest receptions. After 1853 the service was used at the Ropsha Palace near Peterhof, thus receiving the name Ropsha Service. Palace was one of the favourite hunting lodges of Nicholas II.
