Background:
During the years Timo Sarpaneva was awarded three Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale and in 1954, one of his most known sculptures, the Kayak displayed there. In 1991 it was the most expensive modern glass sculpture – also mentioned in the Guinness Book Of Records / Finnish edition.
During the last ten years of his life, Sarpaneva worked purely as a sculptor, and made the most beautiful objects on the island of Murano in Venice.
The Millenium Meum – works were displayed in the year 2000 in the National Opera House in Helsinki as well as in the Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport.
The large collection included also a small series of Kayak´s in agua marine colour and the plan was to make the Kayak in other colours aswell. Unfortunately he did not have time to finish this project.

In February 2009 Sarpaneva Design Ltd finished posthumous the work together with maestro Pino Signoretto in Murano, Venice Italy resulting in a limited series (17 pcs.) of glass sculptures in the Kayak-shape in the colours choosen by Timo Sarpaneva.
