Patrick Demarchelier was most famously known as a fashion photographer, but in more recent years he has started working in a more artistic vein. Upon turning 17 years old, Demarchelier was given his first camera, an Eastman Kodak. He taught himself how to photograph, develop, and retouch his surroundings. He eventually moved from Paris to New York City in 1975 where he worked with well-known photographers such as Henri Carier-Bresson, Terry King, and Jacque Guilbert. His photographs gained the attention of magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire, and he soon began to work for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Demarchelier has also done commercial works for large brands such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Yves Sait Laurent, and Calvin Klein. He has also done cover photoshoots for magazines such as Rolling Stones, Glamour, Life, and Newsweek. Patrick Demarchelier is undoubtedly one of the biggest, most successful international fashion photographers of our generation.
