Josef Frank with friends

Architect Josef Frank’s designs for Svenskt Tenn premiered at an exhibition of contemporary Swedish interior design at Liljevalchs in Stockholm in 1934. It started a lifelong, highly successful collaboration between the firm’s founder Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank. Estrid is reported to have said that “good things need no change”. Today, many of Frank’s timeless furniture and interior design pieces have achieved iconic status both in Sweden and internationally.

Estrid Ericson had the skill of constantly attracting talented employees to her firm. When Estrid started Svenskt Tenn in 1924, designing pewter, she had Nils Fougstedt at her side, and after the 1925 World Exhibition in Paris, she began working with the sculptor and designer Anna Petrus. Since then, many more designers have contributed to Svenskt Tenn’s success.

In this curated themed auction of furniture, lighting and design objects designed by Josef Frank and others, Bukowskis is also pleased to present an example of Svenskt Tenn’s latest collaborations with contemporary designers, the Famna sofa, designed by the architecture and design studio TAF for Firma Svenskt Tenn 2020, which was awarded Furniture of the Year at the Swedish Design Awards by Rum 2021.
