More information

Already as a 15-year-old child prodigy, Lars Jonsson exhibited in 1967 at the Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
Five to ten years later, Lars Jonsson received repeated international recognition, in conjunction with various exhibitions. Since then, he has regularly shown his paintings at galleries and museums in Sweden, the USA and around Europe. The watercolor painting in the auction, ”Aftonfalk”, was created in 1976, by the time of Lars Jonsson's international breakthrough.

Article about Lars Jonsson, published in the Swedish daily newspaper Göteborgs-Posten (September 30, 2020):
"He is today considered one of the world's foremost nature painters, in the footsteps of the von Wright brothers and Bruno Liljefors. In addition, he is an ornithologist with a special interest in birds. An interest that has existed since he was a small child, alongside his interest in painting.

Lars Jonsson grew up in the Stockholm archipelago, but he has lived on Gotland for more than 30 years and whose nature features in much of his art. However, it is not only about depicting birds, but infusing them with life.

On the southeast coast of Gotland, near his art studio, is the world of motifs that Lars Jonsson depicts in his paintings.

At one of the stone-walled courtyards is his favorite spot, overlooking both the sea and the coastal straits.
He is keen on direct contact with atmosphere and landscape, as "the Impressionist he is at heart." It is a place for visual experiences but also for dreams, as the flock of eiders passes and the terns dive against alien invaders."

Lars Jonsson continuously shows his art at galleries and museums in Sweden, Great Britain and the USA. On October 3, 2020 - January 10, 2021, Lars Jonsson's latest Swedish museum exhibition was shown, at Bohusläns Museum in Uddevalla.

During 202 Lars Jonsson's painting was also shown in three museums in the USA: Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Texas (17/1-22/2 2020), Newington-Cropsey Foundation, New York (23/3-15/5 2020) and Wendell Gilley Museum, Maine (20/6-8/9 2020).

Lars Jonsson is, among other things, represented at the National Museum in Stockholm. In southern Gotland, Museum Lars Jonsson is located in the church village of Vamlingbo. In 2002, Lars Jonsson was appointed honorary doctorate at Uppsala University.
