Pekka Jylhä (b.1955), one of our leading sculptors, is best known for his large-scale installations and numerous public sculptures that cannot be missed while wandering in Helsinki. The most famous work of the Pro Finlandia award-winning artist is probably the monument for Urho Kekkonen in Töölönlahti, Helsinki. The artist's favourite materials are steel and crystal among others.
At the ‘Poet's table’, heavy steel is bent into a fabric that falls in abundant folds over an invisible table. According to the artist, delicate, profound and poetic thoughts emerge at the ‘Poet's table’ – sculpture is at its best like poetry in space.
The Poet's table is welded from 133 castings in the artist's Tapiola workroom and cast in Pauli Venäläinen's art foundry in Kuopio. The work was completed in 2007.
