Carl Michael von Hausswolff (born 1956) is a composer, visual artist, and curator based in Stockholm, Sweden.
Since the end of the 1970s, von Hausswolff has worked as a composer using recording technology as his main instrument and as a visual artist using light projections, film, video, still photography, as well as other media. He participated in documenta 10, 1997 (Kassel), biennials including Sarajevo (2013), Moscow (2011), Venice (2005, 2003, 2001), Liverpool (2004), and Istanbul (1997), as well as exhibitions in cities such as Copenhagen, Bangkok, Nicosia, Kaliningrad, Tokyo, Montevideo, Paris, Philadelphia, Kisa, and Umeå. His music has been played in festivals such as Sonar (Barcelona), CTM (Berlin), L’Audible (Paris), elnicho en Aural (Mexico City), and MUTEK, (Montreal), and released by labels including RasterNoton (Berlin), Touch (London), Pomperipossa (Göteborg), and iDeal (Göteborg). He recently curated the second part of the sound installation freqout, entitled freqwave (2020), in cooperation with TBA21–Academy. The project involved the collaborations of artist Leif Elggren, EVP researcher Michael Esposito, composers Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Mark Fell, Jim O’Rourke, author Leslie Winer, and Dark Morph (von Hausswolff with Jónsi of Sigur Rós). He has also collaborated with Pan sonic, The Hafler Trio, Organum, and PHAUSS.
