Ulf Trotzig, oil on canvas, signed
Untitled. 175 x 135 cm.
Badly stretched canvas. Good condition.
From DN's review, from the exhibition at Galleri Doktor Glas Stockholm 1983:
"It blows through Ulf Trotzig's painting. The wind falls in from the west, folds the tree trunks, presses the foam over the wave crest and pulls through bird bodies and branches. The paintings tremble from the movement the artist has captured with his nervous painting.
The diagonal is his dominant compositional principle. lower left edge and cut across the center of the image, where it is often crossed by other diagonals. The strong wind flows through each painting and gives a disturbing impression, and sometimes the chaotic rustling can seem manic.
But at the same time this exhibition contains some of the most powerful Trotzig paintings I have seen.
The latest great compositions are absolutely wonderful. Here the artist works again with collected volumes reminiscent of his Cèzanne and Modigliani-inspired studies from the 1950s.
"The big tree" is one of the most monumental paintings. This tree also breaks in with a diagonal from the left. The bark glows in orange and red and the branch looks like an Easter-decorated twig. ”
