Six months after the great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster in 2011 Claesson Koivisto Rune initiated the Kin Urushi Tohoku Support Limited Edition project. Joined by the Swedish brass manufacturer Skultuna, Kyoto Keikou
Nishimura Lacquer Art Studio and design brand Sfera, this limited-edition variation of
the Kin tea light holders was introduced. Each piece was carefully hand-finished in lacquer by 3rd generation Master Keikou. The proceeds from the sales were donated to support groups of the disaster area. In all, 15 sets were made.
Claesson Koivisto Rune is a Swedish architecture and design studio founded in 1995 by Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto, and Ola Rune.
