Iris Smeds is born 1984 and is an artist based in Stockholm. Using sculpture, video and performance in large scale projects Smeds explores questions surrounding the commodification of the self and the comparison of material and spiritual value. With a background as a play writer, she uses text as the starting point for all her work, presenting her theories in lectures and movie scripts, using poetry as method for idea production. Aside to her other practice she is also performing with her one-woman punk band Vaska Fimpen.
Smeds received the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation’s grant in 2019.
