Bernard Connor:
Evangelium medici: seu Medicina mystica; De suspensis naturae legibus, sive de miraculis; reliquisque en tois bibliois memoratis, quae medicae indagini subjici possunt.
Amsterdam, Joannes Wolters, 1699. 8vo. (16 x 9,5 cms.) [16] + 204 pp. Engraved vignette on title.
Near-contemporary tan half calf. Engraved bookplate of Matthias Benzelstierna (1713-1791). A few old annotations in ink, old ownership inscription neatly deleted from title.
Originally published in London 1697, this is the second edition of Irish physician and historian Bernard Connor’s work about miracle cures. He tried to show that the miraculous cures performed by Jesus Christ and his apostles may be accounted for on natural principles. The book was listed on the Index Prohibitorum of forbidden books from 1721.
