Glazed in brown, green and yellow hues, signed R SWEDEN G. NYLUND UNIK /gl. Height 32,5 cm including wooden stand.
Repaired chip to the edge of the neck by the base, a little polished to one eyelid, retouch to nose.
Designer
Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramicist, designer and sculptor. Gunnar Nylund was active for periods at Bing & Grøndahl, for a few years had his own workshop, Saxbo stentøj, and worked at Nymølle ceramic factory in Denmark. For most of his working life he lived in Sweden and was employed at Rörstrand porcelain factory 1931-59 where he was also assigned the role of artistic director. He has become known for his many different animal sculptures in stoneware, but he also made lots of vases, bowls, lamp bases, etc., as well as tableware and other utensils. Nylund also designed glass for Strömbergshyttan.
