JEFF KOONS, porcelain plate, for Bernardaud, edition of 4500 ex, 2013
"Michael Jackson and Bubbles". Diameter 30 cm. In original box. From the Banality series, 2013.
The monkey Bubbles was Michael Jackson's pet and was purchased from a science institution in Texas in 1983. It has been claimed and stated that Bubbles was Jackson's best and most faithful friend, who even accompanied him on music tours and helped Michael Jackson with the work in the household.
Jeff Koons used a press photo of Michael Jackson and Bubbles as the starting point for his version.
Jeff Koon's creation "Michael Jackson and Bubbles" is designed and created as a natural size porcelain sculpture in four copies, and as a collector's plate in porcelain.
A copy of the "Michael Jackson and Bubbles" sculpture was sold at Sotheby's on May 15, 2001 for $ 5.6 million. All four sculptures are currently placed in different museums, one of which is at the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo.
