Endre Nemes föddes i Ungern och utbildade sig i Prag. Efter flykten till Sverige blev han så småningom ansvarig för konstutbildningen på Valand. Nemes införde en helt annan undervisning än den tidigare förhärskande koloristiska traditionen. Den centraleuropeiska intellektualismen och ett speciellt temperament gjorde att Nemes inte blev särskilt populär. Han var oomtvistat svår. Dock var han en exceptionell konstnär som ständigt utvecklade sin egen konst så att man lätt ser vilket decennium hans verk kommer ifrån. Detta collage från 1975 med titeln ”Hos bronsgjutaren” är ett av Nemes mest utställda och kända verk utfört i collage och tempera.
