SPOONS
Christening spoon, rat-tail spoon, soup spoon, brandy spoon, dessert spoon, medicine spoon, wedding spoon... our oldest and dearest piece of cutlery comes in many varieties. Spoons have long been important collectors’ items and has survived in far larger numbers than any other silver object from before 1700. A silver spoon was a status symbol – “born with a silver spoon in his mouth”, and was associated with a number of traditions, some of which we still keep up today. Godparents often gave a silver spoon to their godchild as a long lasting christening gift. In older times it was a custom for a husband to give his bride a silver gift on the morning after the wedding. – I hope you will find your own favorite among the selected spoons in our upcoming sale!
