SCARF, Hermès, "Le Cortège des Vignerons-Vevevy- 1833", issued 1952
Silk, design Hugo Grygkar, originaldesign 1952. Marked HERMÈS PARIS", app 90 x 90 cm.
Insignificant wear. In excellent vintage condition.
This very rare scarf was issued in reference to the big fest which took place in Switzerland in 1883 to celebrate the arrival of first steamed boats on the Leman Lac in Geneva. This scarf focuses on the arrival of Bacchus, the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility.
Hugo Grygkar was the most prolific
designer for Hermès in the early post-WWII years. He produced over 100 designs from the year he
joined the house of Hermès in 1946 to his death in 1959. Many of his designs continue to be re-issue
by Hermès well into the early 21st century. Grygkar was inspired by a wide range of sources for his
work, including historic prints and caricatures. One of his specificity is that he never signed his work!
