Designer

Hanne Varming (1939–2022) was a Danish sculptor known for her sculptures of ordinary people, often her own children. She also portrayed famous individuals such as Victor Borge. Her depictions of Queen Margrethe II can be seen on the Danish 10- and 20-kroner coins. After school, Varming began working at the Royal Porcelain Factory (Royal Copenhagen), where she sculpted flowers for the renowned Flora Danica series. She was encouraged to take painting and sculpture lessons from Knud Brønsted before applying to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She was accepted and studied under Gottfred Eickhoff and Mogens Bøggild, graduating in 1965. Varming exhibited regularly from 1963 and created, among other works, coins for Crown Prince Frederik's 18th birthday and the piece Piger fra Paris, which is located at Copenhagen Airport.
