Siv Lagerström Collection

A selection of rings, brooches, necklaces, and design objects by Siv Lagerström
Siv Lagerström studied at Konstfack, specialising in metalwork, from 1963 to 1967. Through her friend Ingegerd Råman, who also studied at Konstfack, she came into contact with the magazine Idun, which appreciated her acrylic rings. These rings were sold via mail order through Idun and were manufactured at Gravyrverken in Sollentuna for a short period in the early 1970s. They quickly became an international success. The rings were very much in line with the fashion trends of the time, and Lagerström could be considered Sweden's equivalent to Pierre Cardin with his futuristic, vibrant fashion, introducing a new silhouette and promoting women's liberation.

Her rings represented a new artistic expression, using new materials that broke with the conventions of what jewellery should look like. The expression was more important than expensive materials, reflecting a democratic spirit. Her work also bears similarities to the Op art of the 1960s, with psychedelic, abstract patterns in motion, creating a three-dimensional sculptural feel.
