Wiwen Nilsson – A Master’s Workshop

Wiwen Nilsson (1897–1974) was a silversmith who lived and worked locally in Lund and who, in the early 20th century, became internationally renowned for his austere, groundbreaking design language. He came into contact with silver design early on in his father Anders Nilsson's silversmith workshop. Unlike Anders, who designed jewellery in the Art Nouveau style, Wiwen moved away from soft lines and elaborate decorations. The tools inherited from his father, which were accustomed to Anders and his Art Nouveau style, helped Wiwen to produce geometric forms that were beautiful and striking in their simplicity.

This themed auction features a private collection that includes both classic items such as link chains and the iconic Byzantine candlestick, as well as more unusual pieces like an 18-carat gold ring with a step-cut amethyst and a rigid silver bracelet with Wiwen's monogram stamp from 1934. But perhaps the most exciting item in the auction is the stump that was passed down from Anders to Wiwen.

Welcome to explore the auction showcasing the legacy of Wiwen’s workshop.
