Born in Porvoo, Finland, Hopea studied at the Central School of Industrial Design in Helsinki between 1943–1946, after which she worked for a while as a draughtsman at Taito Oy, under the leadership of Paavo Tynell. Hopea is best known for her innovative and elegant glass designs at Nuutajärvi Glassworks, where she began working in the 1950s. Her designs are characterized by their simplicity, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, often featuring bold colors and clear forms. In addition to glasswork, Hopea designed jewelry and metalware, showcasing her versatility.
