More information

The drawing for Stave's version in alpacca/ silver plate for C.G Hallberg is dated 21.1 1936. This version in silver differs in details from those made by Hallbergs in alpacca. The strainer has more and smaller holes, the finial is longer and the handle without rattan.
This model of cocktail shaker was for long time attributed to Marianne Brandt and has been presented as designed by her at both exhibitions and museum collections before the Swedish / German collector Rolf Walter with copies of the drawing could show that the Swede Sylvia Stave designed the shaker for C.G Hallberg.
The Italian company Alessi included the jug in its catalog in 1989 as designed by Marianne Brandt. Their version was based on the same variant in silver as this shaker presented here.
The model for Alessi's production was a jug in the Neue Sammlung in Cologne.

Sylvia Stave (1908-1994)
The 21-year-old Sylvia Stave was employed by Hallbergs as a pattern designer. She made her debut at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 with, among other things, a game of chess in pewter and ebony.
During the 1930s, Stave / C.G Hallberg participated in most exhibitions both in Sweden and internationally. For example, in Chicago in 1933, 1934 and 1935 in Leipzig and finally at the World's Fair in Paris in 1937.
The exhibition in Paris was a turning point when Sylvia Stave met her future husband, René Agid and then remained in France.
