Art Déco, or Arts Décoratifs, is a classical decorative style whose name name originates from the 1925 Paris World’s Fair (Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes). The style emerged earlier, already in 1910. The Art Déco style characterises of a streamlined design language with geometrical shapes, vivid colours and stark contrasts. Inspiration was derived from antiques and the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. The early 19th century Empire style also inspired the Art Déco’s forms. In Sweden the style was somewhat more restrained and the architecture was often called “20s classicism” or “Swedish Grace”.
