Designer

Denise Wren was a British ceramist and craftswoman, born in Australia. She initially trained at Kingston School of Art where she had Archibald Knox as a teacher. She later continued her education with Henry Hopkins at Camberwell School of Art in 1920. She went on to study at Guildford School of Art between 1945 - 1947 and thereafter at the Royal College of Art from 1947 - 1950.
Denise Wren started her own business "The Potter's Croft" in Oxshott Surrey around 1915. She was one of the first female studio ceramists in the United Kingdom and a pioneer in many ways. Her works were primarily vessels and plates in earthenware with colorful glazes and were sold at various markets as well as via mail order worldwide. Eventually, they developed a kiln in Oxshott where they could make salt-glazed stonewares, a revival of the at the time slightly forgotten technique.
