Barbie – A private collection

Barbie made her debut in March 1959 at the New York Toy Fair in the USA. The iconic doll was created by Ruth Handler, one of the founders of Mattel, after being inspired by the German doll Lilli, which she discovered in a toy store in Lucerne, Switzerland. Handler wanted to create a doll with more adult proportions because her daughter, Barbie, had started to show interest in dolls with a more mature appearance. After bringing Lilli back from Switzerland, Handler made some adjustments, and that's how Barbie was born.

Initially, Barbie faced resistance because she was different from the typical baby dolls. However, after Barbie was featured in TV programs like "The Mickey Mouse Club," interest grew, and the doll quickly sold out. The first edition of Barbie dolls was produced in 500,000 copies and complemented by approximately 1 million different clothes and accessories. Later, more Barbie editions with different looks were launched. It was only in 1963 that Barbie made her debut in Sweden and the rest of Europe, and during that time, she had further evolved.

Bukowskis has the honor of selling a fantastic collection that includes Barbie, Ken, Midge, and Allan. The collection includes a Barbie from the very first edition in 1959 and several subsequent editions. Additionally, there is an impressive selection of rare clothes and accessories for Barbie. Barbie is more relevant than ever with the Barbie movie that had its theatrical premiere in July this year.
We welcome you to step into Barbie's pink world.
