SystembolagetWine and spirits auctions

Italian red, German white and aging spirits

After the late summer's jump start with a lively September auction, we meet the autumn with a large and varied October auction. On the wine side, the auction's nearly twelve hundred items are dominated by champagne, red wine from Italy and France, and a wide section of white wines.

A unusually large number of mixed lots are on offer. Lots sharing origin, producer or vintage - perfect fodder for vintage verticals tastings or area specific studies.

From Italy we see Piedmont's and Tuscany's most vibrant wines, and in a striking series of double magnum bottles - wines from Masseto, Ornellaia and Gaja, among others. A larger section of German white wines showcases the country's most well-known winemakers. Here we meet the equally storable and food-friendly Riesling grape in various forms from Pfalz in the south to Rheingau in the north. The auction's most expensive lot is Burgundy with a bottle of Romanée-Conti 2014 and an estimate of SEK 120,000.

In recent auctions, Japanese whiskey has accounted for the highest hammer prices. In the October auction, whiskey's homeland Scotland challenges this segment with the Islay whiskey; Bowmore 1964 "Black Bowmore" and the auction's second highest estimate of SEK 110,000. Scotland also stands for the auction's oldest whiskey with a Linkwood distilled in 1939. If we change the spelling and go across the sea, we see another whiskey with age: Old Grand-Dad Kentucky Straight Bourbon distilled in 1947. Older examples of distillate can also be found in two 1940s / 50s bottles Chartreuse, "Green" and "Yellow", secretly spiced liqueurs with a dedicated crowd of admirers. Sweden's oldest distillate is otherwise represented by a classic aquavit: Jägarbrännvin in a bottling from the early 1930s.

Welcome to our wine and spirits auction D030 October 2020, start 25st of September and held between 5 – 7 October.

Beverage auctions and Covid-19

The beverage auctions will continue as planned with the spring season's three auctions, while we carefully follow the advice and information from the health authorities. The corona virus affects us all to varying degrees, directly or indirectly, yet our safety comes first and foremost.

When it comes to submissions and retrieval, anyone who does not show flu symptoms is welcome as usual. Feel free to contact us for larger deliveries, so we can prepare a smooth handling.

If you may face issues with retrieving your purchase, we will do our best to find the best solutions for each case.

Please contact us if you have any questions, either by e-mail at: auctions@systembolaget.se or by phone: 08 503 327 54.
