SystembolagetWine and spirits auctions

Classic mature wines and rare whiskey

The Easter weekend is approaching with spice and herb-packed dishes almost as made for classically built wines with rounded maturity. The April auction offers a number of fine vintages from Bordeaux and Burgundy in both reds and whites that meet the classic Easter table's bold elements. The voluminous category of red burgundy offers many exciting discoveries, including rewritten vintages such as 1928 and 1961, and several records with large vintages in 1982. Spicy and musty wines from the Rhone Valley or hot and fruity Italian, Spanish and Californian wines embrace the tastier sides of the Easter table. The sweet side is topped by the viscous Tokaji Essencia, so sweet that it may need up to six to eight years of fermentation time to bring up the alcohol above 3 volume percent.

In the well-stocked whiskey section of the auction, we are happy to showcase a number of rarities. From Scotland, we have several, nowadays rarely seen, bottles from the classic Rare Malts series started in 1995 by United Distillers (later Diageo). In its day, it was a groundbreaking effort to make rare and often discontinued distilleries available to whiskey lovers. From Japan, we find several now-defunct distilleries, not least from Hanyu, which boasts bottles from the increasingly difficult "Ichiro’s Malt Card Series", today one of the most sought after whiskey world. Finally, a hitherto unproven element in the beverage auctions, a post-stored Belgian beer: Lambic in various designs from the classic Brasserie Cantillon. Lamb, bird or fish - here, the truly vinous lambic really comes into its own.

Welcome to a packed April auction, which will be published on 27th Mars, and auctioned between 6th–8th April.

Beverage auctions and Covid-19

The beverage auctions will continue as planned with the spring season's three auctions, while we carefully follow the advice and information from the health authorities. The corona virus affects us all to varying degrees, directly or indirectly, yet our safety comes first and foremost.

When it comes to submissions and retrieval, anyone who does not show flu symptoms is welcome as usual. Feel free to contact us for larger deliveries, so we can prepare a smooth handling.

If you may face issues with retrieving your purchase, we will do our best to find the best solutions for each case.

Please contact us if you have any questions, either by e-mail at: auctions@systembolaget.se or by phone: 08 503 327 54.
