A North-European Baroque giltwood mirror, circa 1700.

The carved and moulded giltwood frame with inset engraved glasses with décor of foliate scrolls and herons. Verso inscribed with: [trans] "Gift to / Nils and Louisa / and then to / Måns / by / Sophie Palmstierna / so it goes to / the Palmstierna family". Height 103, width 87 cm.

Provenance

Nils Axel Hjalmar Palmstierna (1836-1909), recorded in his estate inventory in the Salon: "1 mirror, antique _ _ _ 150[kr]" the amount is among the highest in the valuation. Given by his widow Sofia to their son Nils Hjalmar and wife, and then to their son Måns.
