A Royal Copenhagen tureen with cover and stand, Denmark, 1894-1900.

Green factory mark. Oval shape with handles, Decorated with Ruby Red mussel pattern instead of the classic blue 'Musselmalet' or 'blue fluted' pattern. Length 41.5 cm.

Provenance

The Ruby Red was first launched in 1888. The colour in the design stems from a recipe book compiled in the 1770s by Frantz Heinrich Müller, founder of the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory. The Ruby Red ware was popular in America and was retailed through Tiffany's in New York.
