The case has an interior engraved inscription on a gilt silver plate reading 'Rosebery from The Prince of Wales. Christmas. 1892.'. Rosebery or Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, was a liberal Party politician and Foreign Secretary at the time.
