A Baroque South German engraved and polychrome-painted iron and steel strongbox, later part of the 17th century.

Presumably Nürnberg, Of rectangular form. Decorated throughout with iron bands and polychrome foliate painting. The front with a false lockplate and dated "1676 den 6. Nove:". The lid with a concealed keyhole and fragmentary figural scenes, enclosing a lock shooting five bolts and a steel lockcase with text in German and engraved overall, the red-painted interior with Lamm's inventory number 1479 painted in black. Length 31. wisth 21, height 17 cm. Key included.

Provenance

Carl Robert Lamm's collection. Lamm's catalogue number 1479, purchased in 1900. Sold through Bukowskis art dealership in 1920. Subsequently in private ownership.
