Kurt von Schmalensee

a desk and armchair, executed by AB David Blomberg for the Stockholm exhibition in 1930.

Veneered in walnut, the desk with drawers and cabinets, key hole fittings in nickel plated metal, height 75 cm, 75 x 160 cm, the chair with a later leather covered seat, height 84 cm, seat height 44 cm. Key included.

The original rattan seat missing, minor wear and veneer damages. Key included.

Provenance

The Stockholm Exhibition 1930, villa 46 by architect Kurt von Schmalensee. Part of the interior of the living room.
Accordning to previous owner this was acquired by their grandparents directly from the exhibition in 1930.

Designer

Kurt von Schmalensee was a Swedish architect. He received his education at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm from 1918-1922 and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm in 1924. He was employed at Kooperativa förbundets (the Cooperative Union's) architectural office from 1925-1929. Kurt von Schmalensee participated with a villa (no. 46) at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, which received very positive reviews. Von Schmalensee was the "stadsarkitekt" (city architect) in Norrköping between 1929-1961. He has made a significant impact as an architect in the city of Norrköping, notably through the Art Museum, Konstmuseet, in 1947.
