More information

Anette Flensburg experiments with motifs that question our understanding of reality and how painting can reach a non-representational reality. The most common motif is empty rooms that appear to be a kind of scenography - which they are. Anette H Flensburg builds small models of her rooms, which she then lights and photographs. Based on this, she then makes her oil paintings. Flensburg is an artist who masters the painting technique with surfaces that are almost photographically precise. "Untitled #3" belongs to a series of paintings with the collection title "Walls of paper" that was shown at Galleri Andersson/Sandström in 2008. The motifs are rooms that at first glance seem abandoned; romantically shimmering stage blues that, unlike theatre stages, are devoid of actors. The paintings have something magical about them, because nothing happens, but anything can happen. The rooms are certainly empty, but there is no lack of activity thanks to the strongly patterned fabrics and materials that decorate the rooms. The movement is as much in the walls, which reflect the rest of the room like mirrors.
