A carved qingbai 'boys' bowl, Song dynasty (960-1279).

Rising from a short foot, the thinly potted bowl of conical form, carved on the interior with two boys among stylized floral scrolls covered in a bluish white glaze. Diameter 21 cm.

Cracks, wear, crazing.

Provenance

From a Swedish Collector, Sture Larsson was a notable member of the Swedish Oriental Ceramics Society who formed his collection from the early 1950's an onwards. Thence by descent.

Previously in the Collection of Tage Grönwall (1903-1988). Grönwall was a Swedish diplomat who had a long career serving for the Swedish Foreign Ministry. He was stationed in Tokyo 1956-19 and also accredited for for Seoul 1959-1962.
