The von Fersen cutlery, a set of French silver cutlery, three pieces, 18th century.

Comprising: fork and spoon with the von Fersen coat of arms. Spoon: mark of Louis Antoine Taillepied (active 1760-1784), with Charge and Discharge stamps Paris 1775-1781,
Fork: mark of Pierre-Nicolas Sommé (active 1768-1789), with Charge and Discharge stamps Paris 1783-1789. Knife with steel blade, makers mark AW to the blade. Length 20-25 cm. Total weight 272 grams.

Provenance

According to family tradition this belonged to Count Axel von Fersen the younger (1755-1810).

Axel von Fersen the younger took part in the North American War of Independence in the years 1780-1783 and returned to Paris in the summer of 1783 where he received a position as colonel in the Swedish regiment in French service, The Royal Suédois.
