Bukowskis presents the autumn edition of Modern Art + Design - Scandinavias largest auction for modern art and design. The auction presents works by pioneering Swedish artists, such as Sigrid Hjertén, Isaac Grünewald and Gösta Adrian-Nilsson, as well as international names such as Matisse, Picasso and Henry Moore. Bukowski's design department offers coveted items from Josef Frank, Axel Einar Hjorth and Otto Schulz as well as textiles by Märta Måås-Fjetterström.
Among the highlights from the Art Department we find Isaac Grünewald's "Woman in Blue Dress (Sigrid Hjertén)" depicting his wife Sigrid Hjertén, who is also represented with several works, among them the well-known painting "Harlekin" and "Blondinen på terassen".
Other significant works include a naïve painting by Bror Hjort, " Blommande Eva " with a sculpted frame made by the artist, several works by Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN) and early paintings by the Halmstad group. After the success for Lotte Laserstein this spring we find a number of works, including ”Porträtt av familjen Cedergren (Jan, Ingeborg & Madeleine)”, ”Madeleine” and ”Tre läsande flickor”.
Among the international objects we see the sculpture "Mother & child: fragment" by Henry Moore, "Buste de Femme, le bras droit leve" by Matisse and "Pigeon" by Pablo Picasso. Norway, Denmark and Finland are represented with works by Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, Thorvald Hellesen and Tove Jansson. Graphic works include Picasso, Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali and Max Ernst.
The design department offers Swedish and international design icons, such as a beautiful “Flora” chest of drawers by Josef Frank covered with prints from the Nordic Flora after C.A Lindman, exquisite pine furniture designed by Axel Einar Hjorth and coveted furniture by Otto Schulz - including a cabinet covered in blue artificial leather and decorated with the motif " Paradise, Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden". Furthermore, Bukowskis presents a unique collection of lamps from Nordiska Kompaniet, from the period 1920-1950. One of the highlights is a unique special order created by the prominent lighting architects Bertil Brisborg and Olle Elmgren around 1951. The auction also includes a collection of Danish design with provenance Anders Pehrson, design director at Ateljé Lyktan during the 1960s, as well as rarities from designers such as Hans J. Wegner, Alvar Aalto and Tapio Wirkkala.
The glass department presents art glass by, among others, Bertil Vallien, Peter Hermansson and Claes Uvesten. In ceramics, sought-after stoneware by Stig Lindberg and Berndt Friberg, several sculptures by Birger Kaipiainen and faience by Pablo Picasso are offered.
In the section for carpets & textiles, we see a great focus on our modern Swedish cultural heritage with highlights including Märta Måås-Fjetterström's "Blåplump" and Barbro Nilsson's "Nejlikan blå", as well as a unique woven tapestry by Sigrid Hjertén depicting a vegetative landscape. The auction also offers designer jewelry by Wiwen Nilsson, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, Harald Nielsen, Björn Weckström, Sven-Erik Högberg, Inga-Britt "Ibe" Dahlquist, and more.
