Between the years 1916-1919, Vera Nilsson lived in Copenhagen, except for the summers when she stayed on Öland. Some of her finest works come from this period. She painted several street scenes, including the significant Allégade and Sommarnatt, Köpenhamn.
"From Fredriksberg's garden, there are rows of studies, drawings, watercolors, and a few oil paintings. There are people sitting on the park benches or strolling under the large trees. The lushness of the royal park must have been experienced as a stark contrast to the barrenness of Alvaret. The images from the park primarily focus on the juxtaposition between the enormous old trees and the people on the ground, who are small but numerous." Göran Silfverstolpe, "Vera Nilsson", SAKs publ. 95, p.21.
