More information

Pelé, the football legend, catapulted to international stardom as a teenager while representing his beloved Brazil. His remarkable journey saw him clinch the FIFA World Cup not once, but three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970, a feat unparalleled in the annals of the sport. His prowess as a goalscorer was unrivaled, and to this day, his Guinness World Record of 1,279 goals in 1,363 games remains unchallenged. Within his homeland, he remains Brazil's leading goalscorer, having netted an impressive 77 goals in 92 appearances.

In 1999, Pelé earned the distinguished title of Athlete of the Century from the International Olympic Committee. Furthermore, FIFA, in honor of its centenary, crowned him and Diego Maradona as the Players of the Century. In Brazil, he is affectionately known as "The King."

Upon retiring from professional football in 1977, Pelé embarked on a path of humanitarianism. He became a global ambassador for the causes of sport, peace, and understanding, using the universal language of football to break down barriers. His advocacy included a crusade against leprosy in Brazil, and in 1994, he assumed the role of UNICEF ambassador, advocating for disadvantaged children worldwide.

In 2013, Pelé joined the Hublot family as a Hublot Ambassador. Leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, he played a pivotal role in unveiling the Hublot Official Countdown Clock, a creation by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, and the Hublot Fourth Official Number Board. Hublot, the pioneering Swiss luxury watch brand in football, collaborated with Pelé to construct a football pitch in the Jacarezinho favela of Rio de Janeiro, a symbol of hope inaugurated during the World Cup that year.

Before UEFA EURO 2016™, Hublot orchestrated the Match of Friendship, featuring teams captained by Pelé and Maradona. His last public appearance with Hublot took place in 2019, alongside Hublot Ambassador Kylian Mbappé, the young sensation from Paris St Germain and France. Mbappé, in 2018, became the youngest player since Pelé to score in a World Cup final.

Pelé's peaceful passing on December 29, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones, marked the end of an era. He not only revolutionized football but also championed humanitarian causes and left an indelible mark on Hublot. A true icon, both on and off the field, Pelé was a remarkable champion, footballer, and human being.
