More information

The Royal Oak was released in 1972 to save Audemars Piguet from bankruptcy during the Quartz Crisis. Gerald Genta designed the watch and it was the beginning of a new segment: luxury steel sport watches. It was more expensive than a gold Patek Philippe dress watch and more than ten times the cost of a Rolex Submariner, the price was 3300 Swiss Francs.
