Scandinavia’s leading auction for contemporary Art and Design is back. Highlights from the autumn edition include art by Jim Nutt, Mamma Andersson, Gunnel Wåhlstrand, and Ola Billgren, photography by Terry O'Neill and Maria Friberg and prints by Andy Warhol, Banksy and Roy Lichtenstein. The design department presents international icons from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and an exciting selection of contemporary Swedish designers.
In autumn 2022, the Bukowskis achieved a new world record for a work by the American artist Jim Nutt, which sold for a final price of SEK 13 million. This autumn, Nutt is represented with the painting "Huge", an imaginary portrait of a woman with an exaggerated nose and hairstyle in the artist's characteristic style that alludes to Cubism and Renaissance painting. Jim Nutt's wife Gladys Nilsson can also be found in the catalog with her surrealist watercolor "Summer Rain". Both Jim Nutt and Gladys Nilsson were part of the artist group "Hairy Who" active in Chicago from 1966-1969.
The auction also includes works by sought-after contemporary Swedish artists such as Mamma Andersson, Gunnel Wåhlstrand, Karin Broos, Ola Billgren, and Lena Cronqvist. Mamma Andersson's work "Dramatiska Teatern" from 1999 is included in the collection "Art for the Globe", a foundation founded by Johan Wallin, who collected many original works by contemporary Swedish artists during his life. The foundation will annually reward humanists who strengthen awareness around the environment and our planet.
Another notable collection is that of Christian Zätterström, which spans several different genres, expressions, and materials, from Tova Mozard's photography to Torsten Andersson's painting and Rémy Zaugg's enamel work. For this auction, the Bukowskis have been entrusted with selling some forty works from the collection.
In the photography department, we find pictures by Terry O'Neill, Sam Samore, Ellen von Unwerth, Charlotte Gyllenhammar, and Maria Friberg. Prints and multiples in the auction include international names such as Andy Warhol, Banksy, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Cy Twombly, and Robert Rauschenberg.
The design department presents coveted objects from some of the most influential designers of the '60s, '70s, and '80s, including Ron Arad, Shiro Kuramata, Franz West, Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, and Mario Bellini, as well as collectibles from Swedish post- modernist designers such as Jonas Bohlin and Mats Theselius. The design department also brings together contemporary designers who are part of a new, exciting wave of studio design, including Erik Brattsberg, Fredrik Paulsen, Jenny Nordberg, David Taylor, and Hanna Hansdotter.
