A Persian Kerman Laver 'Mashahir' ( 'The rulers of the world') rug, ca 240 x 147 cm

Around 1910. A polychrome scene with inscriptions, the rulers of the world and other historical persons. Their names are written in medallions in the main boarder. In the upper part of the main border a cartouche with the inscription: Payandeh bad bozorgan-e mashahir-e 'alam', which translates as 'May they be (ever) lasting, the famous great ones of the world'. The inscription on the temple pediment reads 'bar qarar bad zendegani-ye konandegan-e 'alam' which translates as 'May the life of the makers of the world be steadfast'.

The dark brown yarn is partly corroded. Little wear, minor stains.
