A Royal Copenhagen allegorical figure of Africa, Denmark, late 19th Century.

After a Meissen model. Africa depicted as a woman with an elephant hat seated beside a lion with a serpant in her hand. Height 30 cm. Lenght 25 cm.

Repair to elephant trunk, not first quality.

Provenance

From the Collection of Hilma Carlsson (1851-1934), purchased at the estate sale after her in Gothenburg, 18-20 March, 1935, lot no 388. Thence by descent.

Hilma Carlson (born Weidling) was the widow of the merchant and ship-owner August Carlson (1834-1908) a prominent person of Gothenburg in those days and one of the leaders in the development of the Säröregion.
