A Chinese iron-red-decorated blue and white Wufu bat bowl, late Qing dynasty, around 1900.

The exterior decorated with five flying bats amidst lingzhi-shaped clowds. Inside with one flying bat amidst clouds. Diameter 19.5 cm.

Crack. Minor firing flaws.

The design of the five bats (same prounciation with happiness/blessing) is a pictorial rebus standing for the Five Blessings: old age, wealth, health, love of virtue and natural death.
