More information

According to Art historian Roger de Robelin (8 March 2011): The Swedish art collector, Count Carl Gustaf Tessin (1695‑1770) acquired six paintings in Venice in 1736 by Guiseppe Nogari, one with the motif of an old woman with a distaff. The paintings were inherited in 1749 by the king Fredrik I and given to crown princess Lovisa Ulrika. Then acquired in 1777 by King Gustaf III. Sources indicates that the painting of an old woman was sold to a Mr. de la Tour in the 1860’s from the Rosersberg palace. There is a version of the painting in Nationalmuseum (NM 113), and it exists in several versions. Whether it is identical to the one aqcuired by Tessin remains an open question.
